What Is a Veneer?

A veneer is a custom-made ceramic or porcelain facing that is bonded onto a tooth. It can make a tooth look whiter and cover our common imperfections. It can also change the shape or alignment of a tooth. It can be used to treat worn teeth or crooked teeth too.

Veneers: How Are They Placed?

Find out how long this procedure takes and what happens at each appointment.

First Appointment

To begin, you, our lab technician, and the dentist will have a consultation to determine your smile. We also estimate your exact wants and needs to improve your smile. We’ll take impressions or models and take some photographs of your teeth.

Second Appointment

Your teeth are lightly prepared so that the veneers do not appear bulky and blend in naturally with your smile. Temporary veneers are placed that mimic the planned size, shape, and color of the new veneers.

Third Appointment

We will evaluate your comfort, function, and satisfaction with the temporary veneers. This often skipped-step helps us make sure that your new smile is just what you want.

Final Appointment

The temporary veneers are removed and replaced by the final veneers. Once approved these will be bonded into place. Now all you have to do is smile until your cheeks get tired. Generally, this process takes 3-4 weeks from start to finish.

How Long Will Veneers Last?

Veneers are among the longest lasting restorations in dentistry. Most studies have found that they will last 10-20 years. We have seen many cases that have lasted much longer. How long they last will largely depend on how you take care of them. The most common cause for the premature failure of a veneer is clenching or grinding your teeth. If you are prone to this condition and are considering veneers, a nightguard may be recommended.

Are Veneers Safe?

I’ve had a fairly intense dental phobia for most of my life, that combined with years of addiction and severe depression really took a toll on my mouth and on my smile. Years ago I started the process of getting dentures with a different dentist and I had such a bad experience that I never wanted to set foot in another dental office again. I went in for Wisdom tooth pain. They had a last minute cancel and I got in there, same day! Which I was extremely thankful for cuz of the intense pain I was experiencing. I was in and out of there, WITH them being able to do the extraction, and X-ray in less than an hour! They were awesome! And! It was a fraction of the cost of what other offices were charging for the procedure. Especially cuz I don’t have insurance. Amazing staff, excellent dentist! 100/100 for me.
