Therefore, we encourage patients to attend regular six-month check-ups with our skilled dental professionals.

During these appointments, our kind and compassionate team will assess your smile and be on the lookout for any potential dangers. We’ll use modern technology such as intraoral cameras to showcase what is happening in your mouth and educate you on how slight hygiene adjustments can make a big difference.

We would like to take the opportunity to introduce you, in advance, to a new standard of care we are providing to all of our valued patients. At Legacy Dental, we are committed to integrating evolving scientific understandings with the best available technology and treatment options. We know this is just one of the reasons you entrust your oral health to us.

You can anticipate something a little different at your next appointment. We are now using the CariFree System, which allows us to better predict your likelihood of getting cavities. We can then make preventive recommendations, with the goal of lowering your risk of decay, and ensuring a longer life for the dental work you have already invested in and may opt for in the future.

The CariFree System uses a simple screening device along with a swab sample of your plaque in order to measure the levels of harmful bacteria on your teeth. The test is painless, takes less than one minute, and will help us to make a diagnosis as to whether you have a caries infection or not. Cavities are known to be caused by this bacterial caries infection.

This screening test is part of an overall Caries Risk Assessment we will perform. This assessment will allow us to provide homecare recommendations, dietary counseling, re-mineralization therapy of cavities just beginning, and treatment of this infection. We do this with the goal of lowering your incidence of decay and creating more predictable results for lasting dentistry. This assessment and screening provide us with valuable information we can now use to practice minimally invasive dentistry and reduce your time and money spent in the dental chair.

Oral Hygiene Maintenance

A solid oral hygiene routine is the key to successful dental health. The good news is our team is here to help guide you and shape your at-home habits. What’s more, our dental hygienists provide regular cleanings to compliment your daily brushing and flossing routine.

At Legacy Dental, our dental hygienists have assistants rather than working alone. This helps them make sure your cleaning is both efficient and thorough. We also have three dedicated treatment rooms for our hygiene care, which help us to stay on time, and gives you more flexibility when booking your hygiene appointment.

Although our cleanings are very gentle and non-invasive, we understand if you still feel nervous. Therefore, we offer nitrous oxide and an anesthetic rinse for those patients that are sensitive or nervous about getting a cleaning.

Sealants

Cavities are one of the most significant risks for patients of any age but even more so for children. Major factors in this are the pits and fissures common on the surface of our teeth. These areas a more susceptible to decay as food debris can become stuck and then missed by your daily brushing.

Our team of Salt Lake City dentists has a fantastic preventive solution: Dental Sealants.

Sealants consist of a transparent material that is painted onto your teeth and fills the uneven areas on your tooth surface. The material fills the pits and fissures blocking debris and making it easy for you to successfully brush your teeth. This treatment has proven very helpful for both children and adults alike.

The placement of sealants starts with your dentist isolating the tooth and cleaning away saliva, debris, and any plaque. He’ll then carefully paint on the sealant and smooth out your tooth surface. Once dried the sealant is ready to go!

Sealants can be cared for as you would your natural teeth and are checked during your regular six-month exams. If cared for properly, sealants can last a long time as they fight against the risk of cavities.

Root Canals

Are you experiencing a painful toothache? Is your tooth sensitive when you chew or drink? If so, you may need a root canal to provide you with pain relief and restore the function of your tooth.

Occasionally, severe decay or trauma can lead to the inside of your tooth becoming exposed and infected. When the infection attacks the pulp (inside of your tooth), it can be extremely painful and make your tooth very sensitive. The ideal solution is often a root canal.

The good news is, root canal therapy doesn’t live up to its reputation for being painful or uncomfortable. Now, thanks to modern technology, root canals can be carried out in one visit with short recovery time. Here is a quick overview of what to expect:

Evaluation of your tooth
Use of a dental dam to isolate the tooth and keep it clean
We numb the area and offer sedation options
The infection is cleared using rotary instruments
We fill the tooth with a special material to stabilize the tooth
A filling or crown is used to protect the tooth

By using special instruments, we are able to decrease the treatment time and improve the effectiveness of your root canal. If necessary, we may work alongside a specialist known as an endodontist to ensure the highest level of care.

These custom mouthguards are not one-size-fits-all but, rather, are made to fit your exact specifications comfortably. When worn at night the mouthguards gently prevent tooth grinding and can hold your jaw in the correct position. This reduces stress on your teeth and jaw, thus relieving common symptoms such as jaw pain, headaches, ground down teeth, and disturbed sleep.
