What Are Dental Implants?

Discover how implants dentistry could change your life!

Suffering from single or multiple tooth loss? Legacy dental offers dental implants to close any gap in your smile. Dental implants are replacement teeth that could take the position and function of your natural tooth. At our dentist office in Salt Lake City, we consider them an excellent treatment for restoring your smile. A dental implant is a predictable way to replace missing teeth without damaging other teeth.

Our orthodontist treatment involves inserting a titanium screw carefully into the jawbone. After the titanium screw undergoes osseointegration, it becomes a permanent part of your jaw. It is then used to support a single permanent restoration, or a denture, or an entire mouth of new beautiful permanent teeth. Dental implants can look very natural and function like your real teeth.

During our implant surgery, high-quality titanium is permanently inserted into your jawbone. Titanium is among the most biocompatible materials that exist. There are some risks associated with dental implants, but in the hands of an experienced dentist, those risks are minimal. Our salt Lake City dentists have the experience of hundreds of dental implants surgery and have taken many hours of continuing education in implant dentistry.

Why is Legacy Dental Uniquely Qualified to Place Dental Implants?

When choosing a provider to place your implant, there are several important factors to consider. Given the significance of this procedure to both the functionality of your bite and the aesthetics of your smile, you’ll want to ensure you find the right fit for your situation. As part of that process, consider the following:

Legacy Dental offers patients multiple implant options. Some offices only do single implants. Others only do full mouth sets. We offer several options to meet the unique needs of each patient.
Legacy Dental has in-office technology to perform 3D modeling and planning with you before placing the implant, so that you know exactly what it will look like before we begin treatment. Many offices do not have this technology available.
Legacy Dental has 3D x-rays. This combined with the aforementioned 3D modeling allows us to precisely plan and place your implant. Avoiding complications now and in the future depends on this precise placement.
Legacy Dental is able to not only place your implant, but also complete the tooth restoration. Oral surgeons and periodontists that place implants rely on general dentists to complete the restoration of the actual teeth. This ‘multiple office’ approach can overcomplicate the process for the patient. We pride ourselves in keeping the entire process under one roof, therefore making your experience as convenient as possible.
Legacy Dental’s pricing is all-inclusive. There are never any hidden, additional, and/or ‘surprise’ fees. Clear communication and transparency are important to you. So, it’s important to us too!

Dental Implant Treatment Process

1
First Visit At your first appointment, we’ll have a consultation together to determine your wants and needs. Together, we can discuss the options you might consider for tooth replacement.
2
Second Visit This visit is all about planning the specifics of your care. We’ll take a 3D x-ray and digital scan of your teeth. This will allow us to evaluate the exact amount of bone available and plan the exact position of the dental implant.
3
Third Visit At the next appointment, your dental implants are placed. Some patients choose  sedation dentistry for this appointment. However, the placement of the dental implant feels similar to other routine dental procedures, and many prefer only local anesthetic. Often a tooth or denture is placed on the dental implant immediately after it has been placed.
4
Post-Treatment Care The dental implant is then allowed to heal for a few months. After that, final impressions are made, and the permanent teeth or dentures are fabricated and attached to the dental implants. The whole implant process from start to finish usually takes three to six months.

A dental implant procedure shouldn’t be painful. Modern sedation dentistry makes sure that the procedure is entirely comfortable. In any case, we will use an anesthetic, and all you should feel is gentle vibration and pressure. Most patients report not needing to take any pain medication after the procedure and that the level of discomfort is not much different than other minor dental procedures. Once the dental implant has healed, it should feel like any other healthy tooth.

Legacy Dental accepts most of the insurance for dental implants in Salt Lake City and around, Utah. Legacy Dental accepts most of dental insurances including Cigna, Delta Dental, Guardian, Humana, and Metlife.

Dental implants do not get cavities and seem to be less susceptible to gum disease. Therefore, dental implants should last longer than any other dental treatment your dentist may provide. In less than 5% of cases, the initial implant placed does not heal properly and requires replacement. Once the bone has healed around the implant, they are very durable. Eventually, the teeth attached to the implant will need replacing, but one should expect at least five years of service from the attached teeth.
